About

I became an artist in order to better process my experiences in the world. Growing up in a small rural town I did not have a lot of access to art or traditional art supplies. Because of this, I enjoy using common materials to create my work such as found images, buttons, glitter, and writing pens. With limited encounters with traditional fine art, I would look to the things I found in magazines and my family’s food pantry. I strongly identify with the idea of pop art themes and ideals.

After completing my BFA in painting from Texas A&M-Commerce under the guidance of Michael Miller I went on to complete my MFA in Studio Art at Texas Christian University. I have accepted artists' residencies in Vermont and New York.

When I am not in my studio I am knitting sweaters for things that do not wear them.

Statement

I create new narratives that question female identity and place in society, using found images from magazines, paint, glitter, and buttons. I am inspired by news, social media, advertisements, and literature. Because I pull inspiration from a variety of sources, my narratives are open-ended and require the active participation of the viewer to create a resolution.

To my surprise I have not yet come up with a title for this series of small collage works on wood panels. What I do know about these works is that they are my personal response to a mother’s role during a global pandemic.

My work has been recognized by ArtNews, Dallas Morning News, Denton Record-Chronicle, Oak Cliff Advocate, and Thought Art Magazine.

I have shown my work nationwide in places like Texas, Arkansas, Vermont, Brooklyn, and New York.
